John Michael Osbourne
Born: 3 December 1948
Birmingham, England
During a 30-year career, Osbourne's alleged affronts
to common decency have at various times resulted in: banishment
from performing in several major cities; litigation over issues of
free speech; forcible ejection from the offices of CBS Records;
and, in a notorious bat decapitation incident, rabies shots.
Whatever one thinks of Osbourne's headline-grabbing antics,
however, there's no denying his intelligence, perseverance, and
dedication to his craft. Overcoming such tribulations as
career-threatening lawsuits, deaths, departures of key band
members, relentless attacks by the religious right, and a
longstanding bout with alcoholism, Osbourne has, both as frontman
for goth-metal rockers Black Sabbath and as a solo artist, amassed
a recorded output of nearly 20 albums, most of which have achieved
multiplatinum status. Now the star of his own reality-TV show.
